Corton Denham Location
You can find the village of Corton Denham located in the valley between the scarp slope of Corton Hill and the dip slope of Corton Ridge in South East Somerset and several scenic footpaths traverse this attractive landscape. They include the MacMillan Way and Monarch’s Way National Trails as well as the Leland Trail long distance path running close by.
The nearest major towns are Sherborne, four miles to the South, and slightly further away Yeovil and Wincanton.
Coton Denham has the distinction of residing in Somerset and yet having a Dorset postal address. This is because the nearest postal town, Sherborne, sits just across the county border.
The village was originally named Corfetone, and features in the Domesday Book of 1086. The name Corftone comes from the Old English meaning the settlement in a cutting, a rather apt description of our location. The second part of the name comes from the Dynham family who held the manor from the 12th century until 1509.
